Bully jailed for assault on partner

A bully who attacked his ex partner in her home has now been jailed for eight months.

Stuart Burns from 49 Stanley Gardens, Maddiston, had originally been placed on a community order for the assault at a house in Tullibody on November 29 last year.

But he failed to co-operate with social workers and turn up for any unpaid work and was back at Falkirk Sheriff Court last Thursday to have the alternative sentence imposed.

The court was told that, after a night out drinking, he grabbed the 31-year-old, who he had been in a relationship with for four years, by the hair, causing her to strike her head on a kitchen worktop and fall to the ground.

He then followed her upstairs and punched her on the head.

The terrified mum locked herself and her daughter in the bathroom and called her parents for help.

The police were called and Burns was arrested.

Sheriff Derek Livingston told Burns: “This was a vicious assault on your partner and you were fortunate to be placed on a community order.

‘‘The fact is you have not carried out one week of work and I don’t consider you deserve any other opportunities.”
