A woman who survived a three-day ordeal lying injured next to her dead partner has died in hospital.

Lamara Bell, (25) was left critically injured after a crash on the M9 near Stirling exactly one week ago on Sunday, July 5.

The incident was reported to police at the time via the 101 system, but it has now been revealed that the call handler failed to enter the information on the police system meaning that the call was not followed up for three days.

Lamara was found unconscious in the Renault Clio car on Wednesday morning after a farmer reported finding the damaged vehicle.

She had been travelling in the car with her boyfriend John Yuill, (28) who was pronounced dead at the scene. The couple had been returning from a camping trip.

She was taken to Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University hospital where her condition had been described as critical.

Her brother Martin Bell, of Falkirk, announced the news on Facebook this morning (Sunday, July 12).

He wrote: “My sister just passed away.”

Police Scotland chief constable Sir Stephen House made a public apology to the families of the couple on Friday.

The Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (PIRC) has begun an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
