Bitter break-up spells the end for laptop and phone

When Kevin Waddelow (24) learned his partner had been having an affair he sent a picture of her partially dressed via social media to her work colleague and then things escalated.

Waddelow, who appeared at Falkirk Sheriff Court last Thursday, had previously pled guilty to sending threatening messages to his former partner between January 1 and April 30. He also admitted destroying her property at his home on May 8 and assaulting her and destroying more of her property at the address on May 15.

Procurator fiscal depute Gavin Whyte said: “The accused sent an image of the complainer wearing only her pants to her colleague. It was an image she had shared privately with the accused.”

On another occasion she got a message from him via Facebook. When she refused to telephone him he destroyed her laptop.

Mr Whyte said: “He told her ‘I have just smashed your laptop, so well done’. On returning to the address the complainer saw the screen on her £280 laptop had been completely smashed.”

Things became more violent when the woman ended the relationship.

The procurator fiscal depute said: “It was 8.30pm when she came to collect her final belongings. The accused would not give her phone back to her. She went into the kitchen and the accused pushed her against the door.

“She pushed him away and ran from the house into the garden. The accused followed her and threw her phone onto the ground. When she returned later she found her £750 iPhone 6 lying in pieces on the floor.”

Simon Hutchison, defence solicitor, said: “This was clearly a difficult relationship. She admitted to her employer she had been, for some time, having an affair and Mr Waddelow found this out.

“He sent the pictures of her undressed to her female work colleague to get back at her and get even. It was a very naive thing to do.”

Sheriff Derek Livingston placed Waddelow, 39 Spence Street, Bonnybridge, on a supervised community payback order for two years with the condition he complete 225 hours of unpaid work within nine months and attend the Caledonian domestic abuse project for two years.

He was also ordered to pay his former partner £900 compensation for the damage to her property.
