Banned driver took dad's car out

A banned driver will not be applying for his licence anytime soon after he took his dad's car out 'for a spin' and had a smash.

Sean Hogg (27), who was banned three years earlier, was at home and his dad had gone out so he decided to take the silver Peugeot for a drive. While he was out he was involved in a road traffic collision.

Appearing at Falkirk Sheriff Court, Hogg admitted taking a car without consent and driving without a licence and insurance in Lochpark Place, Denny on September 13.

Procurator fiscal depute Mhairi Alexander said: “The witness was at work in the petrol station at 9.20pm when he heard a loud bang. He saw a silver Peugeot with extensive collision damage to the front and there was damage to two other vehicles.”

William McIntyre, defence solicitor, said: “The vehicle driven at the time belonged to his father. Mr Hogg had been banned from driving for three years back in 2013 and he was actually going to apply for his licence on Monday if not for this incident.

“On the night in question his father had gone out and he decided he would take his car for a spin. Unfortunately there was an accident. When he was approached by police he did admit at the time he was the driver.”

Sheriff John Mundy said: “I don’t know why you did it, but you had a similar offence in the past.”

Hogg, 77 Godfrey Avenue, Denny was banned from driving for 45 months. He also received a community payback order to complete 150 hours of unpaid work in the community within six months.
