Banknock thug threatened violence against cops' families

An offender challenged police officers to fight, taunted them with racial abuse and then made several violent threats towards their families.

Thomas Murphy (44) was being taken into custody in a police van when he made his threats.

Appearing at Falkirk Sheriff last Thursday, Murphy, 80 Viewfield Road, Banknock, had admitted two charges of behaving in a threatening manner in Viewfield Road, Banknock on July 26.

The court heard Murphy had not attended his social work appointments so a report had not been compiled.

Defence solicitor Gordon Addison said: “There was supposed to be a telephone appointment, but unfortunately he doesn’t have a telephone. Now he has gone and got himself a cheap mobile phone and has left a number with social work.”

Sheriff Derek Hamilton said: “You will get one further chance. If there is no report on the next occasion – for whatever reason – you are going to be remanded in custody.

The case was adjourned until November 5 for reports.
