Banknock man seized woman's throat and dragged her to ground

A Banknock man has narrowly avoided imprisonment after he assaulted his ex.

Andrew McLaughlin (36), of Wellpark Road, admitted seizing the woman, repeatedly pushing her on a bed, seizing her by the neck, compressing her throat and dragging her to the ground to her injury at a Bonnybridge property on July 27, 2019.

Appearing in court last Thursday, he’d also pleaded guilty to repeatedly shouting, swearing and acting in an aggressive and intimidating manner.

Defence solicitor William McIntyre said his client claimed he’d “reacted in self-defence”.

Mr McIntyre added: “He’s not been in trouble since.”

The court heard McLaughlin has a previous conviction.

He was made subject to a five-month restriction of liberty order, from 7pm-6am on Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday and 10pm-6am on Wednesday and Thursday.

McLaughlin was fined £600 and ordered to pay a £40 victim surcharge as an alternative to custody.

He was also made subject to a two-year non-harassment order which bans him from contacting the woman.
