“At 7pm police executed the warrant and a search was carried out. They recovered four tubs and one plastic packet which all contained a brown substance from a freezer. A number of pairs of white latex gloves were also found in the kitchen along with two sets of scales in a cupboard with traces of a brown substance.

“The accused told police the substance was speed. He said it did not belong to him, but he was aware it was in his property – that was the extent of his involvement in the supply chain.”

The court heard the 1.1 kilos of amphetamine recovered had a maximum street value of £4680.

Kevin Fowler, defence solicitor, said: “He was allowing his uncle to use the house – that was his involvement.”

Sheriff Derek Livingston said: “This was a very substantial amount of drugs and you facilitated that, but you have no record for drug offences.”

He fined Curran, 149 David’s Loan, Bainsford, £1000 to be paid back at a rate of £20 per week.
