Bainsford razor blade thief not so sharp at attending court

A shoplifter who supposedly missed the bus and was running late for court on Thursday found out the hard way it’s not a good idea to keep a sheriff waiting.

Michael Bennett (42), 80 Gairdoch Street, Bainsford, was supposed to be at Falkirk Sheriff Court after admitting stealing razor blades from Wilkos, High Street, Falkirk on February 11, 2020.

Bennett’s defence solicitor Murray Aitken stated he had contacted the office to say he had missed the first bus but was on another and was on his way to court.

Sheriff Derek Livingston said he would give Bennett an opportunity to appear and recall the case at a later stage in the morning.

An hour or so later Mr Aitken stated he had tried to phone Bennett – who was due to get his COVID-19 vaccine that afternoon – but it was just going to answer machine.

"It appears he has got lost,” said Mr Aitken.

Sheriff Livingstomn issued a warrant fro Bennett’s arrest.
