Alcohol thefts from Grangemouth shops was woman ‘trying to survive’

A Grangemouth woman was “trying to survive” by stealing from shops in the town.

Terri-Louise Wilson (29), 56 Inchyra Place, was facing ten charges of shoplifting at Falkirk Sheriff Court last Thursday.

Sheriff Mundy heard Wilson’s reason for the thefts was “very clear”.

Her defence solicitor said: “Her ex partner had retained all the benefits and she was getting no money at all.

“She doesn’t have an alcohol problem, she was stealing to sell to keep herself. She was trying to survive.

“She accepts ultimately she shouldn’t have acted in this matter.”

Wilson had previously admitted she stole alcohol from the town’s Asda store on January 14, 18, 21, 22 and February 11.

She also admitted stealing alcohol from Spar in Charlotte Dundas Court on January 18 and 19 and February 11 and 12.

On January 21 she stole foodstuffs from Spar.

Her solicitor added: “She’s in a new relationship and her situation is much more stable at the present time.”

Wilson was placed on a community payback order with 12 months supervision,

Sheriff Mundy told her: “There are a lot of charges here, whatever the situation.

“I don’t want to see you in here again.”
