Councillor is charged with shoplifting

A councillor has been accused of attempting to steal crockery from Asda in Stenhousemuir

Father-of-two Steven Carleschi (30) is alleged to have tried to leave the store with the items at around 9 pm on Thursday.

A police spokesman said: “Officers were called to Hallam Road, Stenhousemuir, following a report of an attempted theft.

“A 30-year-old man was charged and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.”

Mr Carleschi represents Carse, Kinnaird and Tryst on Falkirk Council andis on the SNP’s Central Scotland list for this year’s Scottish Parliament elections.

It is believed he has stepped aside from all SNP positions until the matter is resolved.”
