Controversy as cafe plans withdrawn

A controversial planning application by a church to bring a cafe and community hub to a shopping centre has now been withdrawn amid fears it would attract an anti-social element.

The application was submitted to Falkirk Council on May 4 by Stark Associates on behalf of the 3D Project and Larbert Pentecostal Church to change the use of a retail premises in Charlotte Dundas Court, Grangemouth.

However, following claims the proposals would attract drug users to the area, concerns voiced on Facebook and a reportedly heated meeting with residents at the premises earlier this month, the decision has been taken to withdraw the application for the time being.

Larbert Pentecostal’s senior pastor Michael Rollo said: “All we want to do is help the community of Grangemouth – not cause any problems. We have withdrawn the application so we can have a rethink and come back with something different. We would still like to have a coffee shop and church campus in Grangemouth.”
