Contests'¨hot up

Water, water, everywhere, nor any drop to drink.

Yes Indeed, for it cancelled our battalion cross country championship due to the flooding in Callendar Park, but without it the swimming gala could not have taken place on February 27!

In the pool at Grangemouth, nine junior teams took part along with ten from company sections. 1st Haggs (Haggs Church) took the junior title for the second year, with 8th Falkirk (Bainsford Church) and 1st Grangemouth (Abbotsgrange Church) in the next two places. 1st Polmont (Brightons Church), 2nd Larbert (Old Church) and 5th Larbert (Grace and Baptist Churches) occupied these places in the company section event.

The BB National Cross Country competition takes place in Alloa on March 19 but with the postponement of the battalion event there is a problem with selection of team members. However, the convenor is selecting suitable runners from nominations and past form. He also hopes to run our local competition, albeit late, on April 23 to allow the continuity of trophies being available for boys taking part.

In other national competitions, 1st Denny and Dunipace (Westpark Church) ended good runs in Masterteam (quiz) and chess. They were 4th in the Scottish final of Masterteam with only 4.5 marks separating them from the winners 25th Stirling (Dunblane). In the semi-final of the chess, 7th Edinburgh prevailed and went on to win the Scottish final. Good
effort by both Denny teams. Well done!

With Falkirk & District Battalion hosting the UK BB National five-a-side football competition, arrangements are well advanced to make a memorable day for boys from England, Wales and Ireland visiting with the Scottish teams. Games will be beamed live on YouTube, with all sorts of other highlights to be announced closer to the date, April 30.
