A woman campaigning to give Grangemouth town centre a face-lift is calling for a helping hand with next month’s clean-up event.
Carla McMahon (23) works in the area and has been dismayed by recent high-profile shop closures in Grangemouth’s shopping precinct – and how it was portrayed in the media and social network sites as a ghost town.
She said: “There has been a lot of bad publicity for Grangemouth and I just think something needs to be done to show there are lots of good qualities about this town too.
“We still have great shops here and more businesses on the way. I just thought the town centre was getting dirty and run down and if we wanted more people to come here we should clean it up.”
Carla has mounted a campaign on Facebook and has been talking to town centre management and local councillors to take forward her idea of holding a litter pick for the town centre in September.
“There has been a lot of support online for this.
“We just want people to come along and help us get rid of the rubbish, give the place a wash and some paint here and there to give it a bit of a facelift.”
People can visit www.facebook.com and search for “Repaint Grangemouth town centre and general tidy up” for more information and the date of the event.
