The ‘Spend a Penny’ partnership between Falkirk Council and Falkirk Delivers has signed up over 15 local businesses across the district willing to allow the public ‑ not just customers ‑ access to their toilets.

They include M&S, The Howgate, Callendar Square, Coffee on Wooer, Behind the Wall, Sportsters Bar, Goose on Newmarket, La Banca, North Star and Sorocha in Falkirk, Portonian Bakery and Tearoom in Grangemouth and The Ivy Tearoom in Bo’ness.

Every trader who is part of the scheme can qualify for a one-off grant to improve their facilities.

Shoppers should look out for the ‘Spend a Penny’ sticker on the windows.

Councillor Alan Nimmo said: “The initial response by local business has been very encouraging and I hope more will come on board.”

The cash-strapped council is considering closing its public toilets next year to save money.
