An engineer has had his skills recognised after winning a prestigious industry award.

George Gray, an employee with coach operators National Express in Dundee, took home a top award from the recent Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham.

George, from Head of Muir, took top honours at the recent national Irtec Awards.

Sponsored by Halfords Trade, the awards recognise the best and brightest road transport technicians licensed with the Institute of Road Transport Engineers’ (IRTE) irtec accreditation scheme.

Irtec ensures technicians who look after the UK’s buses and lorries are up to the job by licensing their skills and knowledge.

Technicians hoping to earn their licence undergo rigorous theory and practical assessments and George, who works as an engineering chargehand for National Express, outscored technicians from throughout the country to earn his licence with top marks.

George said: “I was absolutely delighted to travel down here today from Scotland to collect this award.”
