Award winning wholesale butcher Malcolm Allan has increased its workforce after winning a new contract to supply Asda supermarkets.

The £150,000 deal will see its new brand of gluten-free Lorne sausages sold in 50 stores across Scotland.

The company, based in Larbert’s Central Boulevard, already sells over 21 million slices of Lorne a year - and now intends to supply an additional 120,000 of its new range.

It has hired another ten staff to meet the demand for its latest product which will be exclusive to Asda customers when it goes on sale later this month.

Malcolm Allan is a family-owned business which as well as its sausages has been supplying Asda with pies, burgers, mince and puddings for over 25 years.

Director Gordon Allan said: “We’re delighted to have secured this deal. Producing this new gluten-free Lorne sausage is something we take great pride in and allows our products to suit new customer demands and deliver tasty - and alternative - options.

“Having our products available through a major retailer like Asda is great for us and enables our customers a wide variety of fantastic locally produced quality products to explore. It’s excellent to see that Asda is continuing to invest in providing a range of products full of Scottish taste.”

Brian O’Shea, regional buying manager for Asda, is delighted with the deal.

He said: “Malcolm Allan produces products that are premium quality and this new Lorne sausage will enable all our Scottish customers to enjoy them.

“Feedback from everyone who has already tried the new line has been incredibly positive and we’re looking forward to working with the business to hopefully increase the range.”
