A major German supermarket chain has confirmed it will open a branch in Polmont.

Aldi bought the former Co-operative store in Greenpark Drive earlier this year.

When contacted by The Falkirk Herald, Aldi said it hoped to open in 2016, with the creation of more than 30 jobs.

Robert Stoddart, property director for Aldi, said “I am happy to confirm Aldi has taken over the Co-op store in Polmont and has lodged plans with Falkirk Council for its conversion into the Aldi format. We are targeting a 2016 opening, although it is too early to give specific details until we complete the planning and design process. The new store will create around 35 new jobs.

“We are very excited about bringing the Aldi brand to Polmont.”
