A health-conscious company has been recognised for its commitment to keeping its workforce in tip-top condition.

Longannet-based firm ScotAsh, which produces environmentally-friendly cements and grouts from recycled power station ash, has won a Bronze Healthy Working Lives award after launching a wellbeing programme two years ago.

The distinction adds to the company’s health and safety record of 11 years without a lost-time injury.

Karen Seivwright, who has been leading a series of healthy-living initiatives, said: “The wellbeing programme started with a healthy-eating campaign, and we began ordering Graze boxes and fresh fruit to promote healthier snacking at work.

“Quite a few people cycle to work, but we’ve also had a few who wanted to lose weight so we gave every staff member a copy of the Hairy Bikers’ diet book which is full of hearty but healthy recipes.”

Other initiatives have included a stop smoking campaign and awareness of prostate cancer and mental health.
