Falkirk West MSP Michael Matheson has welcomed new figures showing the Scottish Government is exceeding a key training target.
Latest figures from Skills Development Scotland make encouraging reading for school leavers looking to add to their qualifications.
They show that some 25,247 young people were placed on Modern Apprenticeships in 2014/15 taking the number over the last four years to over 101,000.
Locally there were 899 new starts in the area over that period - with more than 1000 modern apprentices successfully moving into training as of March this year and now working towards a full-time career.
Mr Matheson said: “These figures again highlight the importance of Modern Apprentices to the Scottish economy. To have 101,000 new starts in this parliamentary term alone is a remarkable achievement.
“I have seen first-hand the benefits modern apprenticeships bring to the people in my constituency.
“There is no doubt it is a positive and rewarding experience for all those who take part and I am delighted at the success it is having across Scotland.”
