Hoping to serve up a financial feast for Falkirk Football Club is a new supporters’ group which was launched this week.
The Bairns Business Club is the brainchild of several enthusiastic fans from the business community.
Following in the footsteps of similar ventures run in support of St Johnstone and Dunfermline, a committee was quickly formed which held its first event on Tuesday at the Beancross Hotel, near Laurieston.
Over 90 business people attended and they heard Gordon Robinson, chairman of the Bairns Business Club, explain its aims and objectives.
He said: “It will give people with an interest in Falkirk Football Club an opportunity to network informally with like-minded local businesses and professionals to create a closer working relationship.
“As well as raising the profile of the business club in the community, all money raised will go to the football club for specific activities. which will be agreed by the members.”
Mr Robinson, who is financial controller at Malcolm Allan & Sons Ltd, said planned activities would hopefully include more business breakfasts, a Champions League network evening with various pundits, whisky tasting and golf days.
An initial payment of £150 just now will cover membership until the end of next season and will include one corporate hospitality place at a selected home fixture.
A question and answer session with the football club’s manager Peter Houston and captain David McCracken, along with stalwart Alex Totten, was hosted by Dunfermline FC’s former player and manager Jim Leishman.
Wishing the club every success, he said: “It’s hard times in Scottish football and it’s great to see clubs like this providing support.”
