Hoping to scoop up even more success in 2014 are the owners of The Milk Barn, recently named Falkirk’s best new business.
Suzannah and Alastair Reid only opened their ice-cream parlour in June, but already it has become a firm favourite with customers.
And it’s not just locals who have been flocking to their venture, based on Glen Farm, near Glen Village, but the message has spread with ice cream lovers coming from all over to taste the wide array of flavours.
Suzannah said: “It’s been overwhelming. We could never have imagined that it would have taken off as quickly as it has or grown so much.
“But we’re enjoying meeting everyone and are already making plans for the future.”
The Milk Barn wasn’t an overnight decision but one that was around 10 years in coming to fruition. This was the couple’s response to the falling price of milk and a realisation that they would have to diversify.
Opening in the middle of a heatwave proved the perfect start – although Suzannah admitted they were stunned by the response.
She said: “We thought we would get all the staff trained up and find our feet, but almost from day one we were mobbed. It may have been manic but it’s been brilliant.”
With flavours as varied as blueberry yoghurt to mint choc crisp, Oreo to prosecco and strawberries, there is something to suit every taste.
Last month, The Milk Barn won the Best Start-up category at The Falkirk Herald Business Awards in recognition of their efforts.
Suzannah said: “To say we were stunned was an understatement, but we were delighted at the accolade.”
The Milk Barn will be closed from January 6-17 for refurbishment giving the couple a well-earned break with children Jack (11), William (9) and four-year-old twins Emma and Maddie.
