A local baker is rising to the occasion by opening a new shop ... with his wife ready to take over the reins.
Marshalls Family Bakers opened in Manor Street, Falkirk, in July 2012, but owner Eddie Marshall always had his eye on a second shop in his home town.
Now the traditional bakery is hoping to make more dough by opening a unit in the former Larbert News shop in the village’s High Street.
Eddie said: “I actually looked at the shop before we opened the Falkirk one, but I thought it was too small, which is ironic, as it’s actually bigger than the Manor Street one.
“My wife Gina and I are from Larbert and live in the village with our kids so we always wanted to bring the business to the town.
“It is the perfect location for a traditional bakery.
“Larbert is a really busy town with a growing population and a huge hospital on it’s doorstep. We already supply a few businesses in the area with cakes and they sell well.
“The feedback we’ve had is that Larbert has been crying out for a bakery so we are just looking forward to getting stuck in and making it a success.”
Gina has helped out with the bakery since it opened but joined full-time in December after quitting her job at Braes High School.
Eddie admits: “It’s a good thing the second branch is opening soon. We are two headstrong people used to being in charge, so things can get quite heated when we are both working in the shop together!”
The Falkirk shop will continue to be run by Eddie, with Gina heading up the Larbert branch.
They hope to have the new unit opened by the start of April and will sell bread, cakes, scones, pies and custom design celebration cakes – all made on the premises.
