Butchers are cut above in the Falkirk area

Two local butchers served up some tasty cuts to gain diamond and gold medals at this year’s prestigious Smithfield Awards.

Patricks of Camelon captured a top-rated diamond and special best product award when its savoury meatballs were named the best Scottish Lamb creation in the entire competition, which was organised by the Q Guild for butchers.

The Main Street shop also earned gold awards for its pork sausage, BBQ steakburger, mexican steakburger, Scotch pie, and macaroni cheese.

Thomas Johnston Quality Butchers, in Cow Wynd, picked up four gold awards for its beef links, pork links, beefburger, and haggis.

The 2014 competition featured a total of 479 products from 54 Q butchers around the country judged by independent panels of food and meat industry experts.

Q Guild national chairman Brindon Addy, said: “Smithfield Awards are among the meat industry’s most esteemed and cherished accolades, recognising and rewarding both product quality and innovation.”
