Falkirk Jobcentre has held an event it believes could hold the key to matching employers with jobseekers without them having to wade through piles of CVs.

Eight employers from the local hospitality industry met over 100 people looking for work and got the chance to speak to them in an informal way during an open recruitment evening last week.

The aim of the event was also to give jobseekers a chance to find out first hand what the employer is looking for and for the employer to judge if the person has the qualities they desire in their staff.

Linda Gibb, Falkirk Jobcentre manager, said: “People in the hospitality industry often say it is about getting an applicant with the right personality and attitude, and hopefully this type of event will allow this to happen.

“The Employment Adviser Team are in daily contact with employers and, acting on feedback from those employers in the hospitality industry, know it is important in their industry to recruit people with the right personality and attitude.

“The team at Falkirk and Grangemouth Jobcentre wanted to find a way to give our customers an opportunity to show employers they had those attributes so came up with the idea of inviting employers with vacancies into the office after normal business hours to meet interested customers face-to-face.”

The event, held last Wednesday at Heron House, has been voted a great success, with employers saying they would be interested in attending similar evenings in the future.

Debbie Park from McDonald’s at Central Retail Park said: “It was a very organised event.

“There was a very good turn out and I was impressed with the calibre of people.

“I will definitely attend the next event.”

Irene Napier from the Glenskirlie House Hotel and Castle said: “It was a very well organised evening, a good response from job seekers, and great potential.”

Forth Valley College also attended the event to advise on the various training courses it offers to the hospitality sector.

Linda said the Jobcentre will definitely be having future events for all sectors of employment. Any employer wishing to take part in a future open recruitment evening should get in touch with the Employment Adviser Team on (01324) 505080.”
