House builders have been given more time to sign off on their plans to develop a site in Longcroft or risk having the idea refused.

Mactaggart and Mickel earmarked the land on either side of Glasgow Road for development in 2011.

The ambitious proposal for up to 550 houses, a convenience store, nursery and play area was explained in detail to neighbours at two public exhibitions in Head of Muir Primary School in April 2010.

Despite objections, it was granted permission subject to conditions.

Since then however, nothing has happened.

When the planning committee met for an update last week, they were urged to give the company until February to complete the required legal paperwork.

Planning boss John Angell told councillors: “The current situation is the application remains undetermined but significant progress has been made towards concluding the outstanding matters to enable planning permission in principal to be granted. In view of the progress made and continuing to be made it is considered reasonable to provide a further period of time.”

Mr Angell said agreement has been reached with regards to the design of road improvements to the M80/A803 slip road junctions and discussion on a draft Section 75 Planning Obligation had received a positive response by the applicant.

Committee convener Baillie Billy Buchanan said: “I’m pleased to hear things are moving forward.”
