Whist & Dominoes

Competition was fierce at Brightons Whist and Dominoes recent meeting with Jim McInally coming first in the whist and Rita Dawson finishing a close second and Ruth Huntley winning the dominoes just ahead of Margaret Hunter. New members welcome. Call (01324) 714616.

Parish Church

Last Sunday, Elwyn Batt, one of our elders led the morning service at the start of Guild Week and was assisted by members of the Guild. Liz McKellar gave the youth address, Jean Meek led the prayer and Anne Smith read the lesson and sang a solo - Compassion. During the service our thoughts and prayers with Sheena and Ian Huntley and the family and friends and Mary Morrison following the passing of her husband Roddy earlier in the week. Following the service the Guild held a very successful Soup and Pudding lunch and so far the sum raised for our two projects, Wevolution and Comfort Rwanda is £730 plus a donation of £1000. Thanks to all who made this possible. This Sunday, the Rev. Murdo Campbell will conduct morning worship at the usual time of 11 a.m. The next meeting of the Guild is this Monday, November 24 at 7.30 p.m. This is our visitors evening when Mrs Amanda McQuarrie will be the speaker. The title of her talk will be ‘My journey into the Ministry’. A warm welcome is extended to all. The Boys’ Brigade will be holding a Coffee Morning and Party Lite Candle sale in the Heriot Hall on Saturday, November 29 from 10 a.m. to noon. The Boys’ Brigade will again be offering a Christmas card delivery service covering Brightons, Wallacestone, Rumford, Maddiston, Shieldhill, Reddingmuirhead, Redding and Polmont areas. Stamps will be on sale from the church hall vestibule on Sundays and Friday evenings from now, a cost of 25p each. The cards will be delivered over the weekend of December 13 and 14 so the last date for posting will be Friday, December 12. Half the proceeds of the delivery service will go to BB funds and the other half will be used to help buy food for local families in the Braes area who are finding it difficult to make ends meet at the present time. Door duty this Sunday will be by Robert Callahan, Jean Callahan, Andrew Fulton, Graham Bell, Elwyn Batt and Andy Gillespie. The crèche will be manned by Gillian Beaton, Nancy Lees and Lesley Mann.

Coffee Afternoon

The 1st Reddingmuirhead Girls’ Brigade are holding their annual Coffee Afternoon on Sunday, November 23 in the Community Centre in Reddingmuirhead to raise funds for the company. Entry is £2 per person and all are welcome to join us. Come along and enjoy goods from the gift stall, freshly made crepes, face painting, bottle stall, etc. Any donations of baking, good as new gifts or bottles for the bottle stall will be gratefully received. Breakfast With Santa

This popular event returns this year and is being held on Saturday, December 6 from 10 a.m. to noon in the Methodist Church in Reddingmuirhead. This is to raise funds for the church. Tickets are £5 and adults will get two hot rolls, tea/coffee and mince pies and children receive one hot roll, juice, activities to do and a gift from Santa.
