Open Day

An Open Day to celebrate Down’s Syndrome Awareness Week will be held at the Activities Club in Grange Community Education Centre on Saturday (March 21) from 2-4 p.m. Music, games and information leaflets available. Animal handling with Cool Creatures. Tea and cake provided. All welcome.

Whist Results

Parish Church

Last Sunday, Rev. Murdo Campbell led the 11 a.m. morning worship and welcomed to the service Willie Ford and Matthew Gracie from Gideon’s International. During the service Willie Ford reported on the work of Gideon’s and Matthew Gracie led the children’s and youth address and preached. A presentation on behalf of the congregation was made to Ian Baillie, who was today retiring after almost 10 years as Session Clerk and Lesley, his wife received a bouquet of flowers from the minister and the new Session Clerk Eric Smith, formerly Depute Session Clerk. After the service the Annual Business Meeting took place. The Acting Treasurer, Jeremy Clarke presented the annual accounts for 2014. Maggy Dick and Ann McFarlane were elected as new members to the Deacons’ Court and Norma Thompson and Keith Wansbrough were re-elected. All will serve on the court for the next thee years. The minister then reported on the last year and Andrew Fulton gave the vote of thanks. This Sunday the minister will conduct the service at 11 a.m. The uniformed organisations will be on parade for their closing service. The Beginners/Juniors Sunday Schools and the Crèche will meet as normal. In the evening there will be the next Science and Faith meeting at 7 p.m. in the Rankine Hall. Mrs Wendy McLean will speak on the topic of evolution. Next week from Monday to Friday the Braes Churches joint Holy Week Services at 7 p.m. will take place in Slamannan (Bowling Club), Wallacestone Methodist, Polmont Old Church, Laurieston Church and Brightons Church. All are warmly invited to attend at one or all of these services. Door duty this Sunday will be by Billy Rankine, Ian Lawson, Malcolm Lewis, Pat Paterson, Ian Huntley and Doug Maden. On crèche duty will be Alison Cassells, Lesley Mann and Linzi Matheson.

Ladies’ Group

Brightons Ladies’ Group will meet at 7.45 p.m. in the Community Hall on Tuesday, March 31. This is the last meeting of the session. A representative from Strathcarron will be the speaker and will be presented with a cheque for £800 towards the work of the hospice. All ladies welcome. Admission £2. Ladies will be reminded later of the details for the evening out.
