Step Forth

Like to walk but not on your own? Want to get fit but don’t know where to start? Why not join our walking group and meet new friends. RVS Club

The next meeting of the RVS Club is on Wednesday, April 16, in the Rankine Hall of Brightons Parish Church from 2 - 4 p.m. Musical entertainment will be provided by John and George when details of the May Outing to Aberfoyle will be announced. Ann will be in touch regarding transport arrangements.

Funds Raised

The Grange Community Education Centre would like to thank everyone who came along to the Easter Fayre. We had a fantastic day and managed to raise over £150 towards activities within the centre.

CEA Meeting

The meeting takes place in the Grange Community Education Centre on Wednesday, April 16, at 7.30 p.m.

Parish Church

Last Sunday the minister, Reverend Murdo Campbell, led the worship at 11 a.m. and the monthly evening at 6.30 p.m. At the morning service Craig Smith assisted by delivering the young peoples’ address. During the service our thoughts and prayers were with Donald and Rachel Meek following the death of Donald’s mother earlier in the week. This Sunday, the minister will conduct the service at 11 a.m. The Sunday Schools (Beginners and Juniors) and Triple S will meet as usual, as will the creche, all at the usual time of 10.50 a.m. Next week from Monday, April 14 through to Friday, April 18 sees the Braes Churches Joint Holy Week Services taking place at 7 p.m. in Wallacestone Methodist, Polmont Old, Redding and Westquarter, Brightons and Muiravonside respectively. On Easter Sunday, April 20, there will be an Easter Celebration Breakfast in the Rankine Hall from 9 - 10.15 a.m. The minister will lead an Open Door (Enquirers) course, for those interested in exploring the Christian Faith with a view to church membership, or wishing to revisit the basics of faith commencing on Wednesday, April 16 in the vestry at 7.30 p.m. A further Alpha Course will commence also Wednesday, April 16 at 7.30 p.m. in the Small Hall, led by Ian Lawson. Door duty this Sunday will be by Robert Callahan, Andrew Fulton, Graeme Bell, Elwyn Batt, Innes Macleod and Andy Gillespie. The creche will be manned by Lorraine Campbell, Lorna Duke and Gillian Hunter.

Ladies’ Group

Brightons Ladies’ Group held their last meeting of the session on Tuesday, April 1, when the guest speaker was Maggie Quayle, Visits Officer for the R.N.L.I. Maggie gave a most interesting illustrated talk on the R.N.L.I. stations around the U.K., the boats, the volunteers who brave all kinds of dangers and all kinds of weather to man the boats and the financial cost of running the R.N.L.I. She accepted a cheque for £1000 from the Ladies’ Group. This is to be used specifically in the South Queensferry station. Ladies going to the meal are reminded it is on Tuesday, April 15 in the Claremont, Polmont, 7 for 7.30 p.m.

History Group

The Local History Group are holding a slide show in Maddiston Community Centre tomorrow (Friday) April 11 beginning at 7 p.m., this is our first slide show for quite some time so take the opportunity to see the parish as it was as the changes to the area are coming quick and fast. This is the chance for those who have just moved into the area to see how it used to be and for those who were born and brought up here to reminisce a little. There will be a break for tea/coffee and a blether at half time, all ages welcome. Will members please note there will be no meeting on Monday, April 14.
