Bo'ness lad wins first ever Sir Terry Wogan Award

Lauchlan is a Children in Need veteran fundraiser, even although he's still only 11.

Bo'ness doesn't need a statue when it has 11-year-old Lauchlan Muir to call on, because he has just won a unique honour before millions of TV viewers.

We have covered his remarkable fundraising stints over several years, but now-famous human statue Lauchlan has achieved the ultimate Children in Need honour – by being presented with the very first Sir Terry Wogan Fundraiser of the Year Award.

Sir Terry, who made Children in Need the massive charity phenomenon it is today, presented the programme for 35 years.

He passed away in January this year, and while he hasn’t yet been honoured with a statue it’s possibly fitting that West Lothian’s own human statue now proudly bears the enormously prestigious award named in his honour.

Lauchlan received the honour from Sir Terry’s son Mark during the TV programme, a moment witnessed by countless viewers across the UK.

Lauchlan’s remarkable act, and perseverance, this year raised more than £3,500 for the charity, while across Scotland as a whole generous viewers raised £46.6 million, towards a UK record total of £46.6 million.

His latest and most stunning success brings Lauchlan’s personal fundraising total to more than £10,000 over the past five years.

It’s a story which began when he was just five, and won a Pudsey Bear toy in a raffle in primary one.

Naturally he then watched the Children in Need programme, and having been inspired by what he saw decided then and there that he was going to start fundraising the following year.

Since then, he has never looked back – because, after all, looking back isn’t a serious option for a statue.
