Bo'ness Academy makes '˜some progress'

Bo'ness Academy has made inroads into raising the performance of the school but there are still some areas for improvement, a report has found.

The school received a follow up inspection from Education Scotland and the findings of the report were published on Tuesday.

The education watchdog highlighted a number areas of progress in the quest to raise pupils’ attainment including “a strong clear vision for Bo’ness Academy”, “a promising start by school improvement groups,” and an improvement in exam performance of those in S4 and S5.”

However, the variation in quality of learning and teaching continues to be a concern and there was no overall trend of improvement in the school’s performance in National Qualifications.

The latest report comes after an inspection in December 2015, found the school “could do better” and needed additional support and time to make necessary improvements.

A further inspection has been scheduled for 18 months’ time.
