A man has died as a result of his injuries following a house fire in Bonnybridge.

The 55-year-old who has not been named lost his fight for life at Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert on Tuesday.

The cause of the fire which destroyed a property in Woodlea Gardens is not known.

But a spokeswoman for Central Scotland Police, confirmed: “We are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident and a report on the full circumstances will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”

The alarm was raised around 3.45 a.m. last Friday morning. Four crews from fire stations at Denny, Larbert and Falkirk raced to the scene to find the modern detached two-storey home ablaze.

At the height of the outbreak 25 firefighters wearing breathing apparatus battled to bring it under control but the property was gutted by flames from top to bottom and later had to be demolished.

Central Scotland Fire and Rescue station manager Alasdair Currie said: “We received numerous calls. On arrival the house was well alight. All occupants of the property were accounted for. The cause of the fire is being investigated.”

The drama in the quiet residential area has stunned the community, but neighbours declined to speak to The Falkirk Herald.
