Bigot behaves badly watching Hibs v Rangers

Whailin was watching Hibs versus Rangers in a pub when he started shouting sectarian remarks

Michael Whailin (49) was also seven sheets to the wind when he unleashed a torrent of sectarian abuse while watching Hibernian play Rangers in another bar.

Appearing at Falkirk Sheriff Court last Thursday, Whailin previously admitted behaving in a threatening manner and uttering sectarian remarks in the Newmarket Bar, Lint Riggs, Falkirk on May 21 last year. He also pled guilty to threatening behaviour at the Dundas Pub, La Porte Precinct, Grangemouth on March 8.

Procurator fiscal Siobhan Monks said: “It was 7pm when the accused entered the pub. It was noticeable he had already been drinking, but bar staff thought he could still be served.

“He had fallen asleep for some time and was told at 8.15pm he would not be served any more alcohol. He told one of the bar staff he was going to slash his throat. Staff contacted the police.”

It was stated during the earlier offence at the Newmarket Bar, Whailin had made sectarian comments.

The court heard alcohol had a negative impact on Whailin’s life.

Sheriff Derek Livingston said: “He is now hovering near to custody and if he commits any further offences like this, he will be going to prison.”

Whailin, 22 Oxgang Road, Grangemouth, was placed on a supervised community payback order for two years with a requirement to attend for alcohol counselling. A review was called for in three months.
