BB notes: Sporting contests test the skills

Illness and stretched diaries limited the local Stedfast Association numbers at the tenpin bowling in Stirling on October 18.

Nonetheless, good scoring prevailed, due more to the ‘gutter-guards’ left in place by the previous children’s party than to actual skill!

A battalion honorary vice-president and a former captain shared the honours with a Zetland Church Guild member. Wooden spoons were awarded to a former battalion chaplain and a Larbert West Guild member, but everyone enjoyed a night of laughter and fellowship.

Company Section senior boys took part in the first of two nights’ competition in a five-a-side football league, on October 16. 3rd Falkirk (People’s Church) lead at this halfway point but the other four teams can still catch up on the second night on December 4 when the new trophy will be presented.

Officers taking boys on holiday or to camp require holiday leadership training. Stirling battalion is running instruction at Dunblane Cathedral Halls on Saturday, December 7, from 12.30-6 p.m. Any officers wishing to attend should contact Helen Ward, training officer. More training is available for captains at Carronvale House on Saturday, November 23, when Steve Dickinson, Brigade secretary, will be participating. Contact Carronvale for details.

Shalier Atkur, 1st Larbert (West Church); Daniel Laird, 1st Haggs (Haggs Church); and Jordan Bryce, 1st Polmont (Brightons Church) attended the national Queen’s Badge completion course at Carronvale over October 14-16. Well done. There are a further 20 candidates eligible for the mid-Scottish course in April.
