BB NOTES: Companies progress in national contests

Rounds of the national competitions are progressing and Dave Wilson, skipper at 1st Grangemouth (Abbotsgrange Church), tells me his ‘B’ table tennis team won their opening round against 25th Stirling, so progressing to the next round, where they hope to join their ‘A’ team in the draw.

The draw for the second round of the Masterteam Quiz on December 12 has also been made. As in the first round, if two teams from a single company have progressed they are drawn together. This means only one of the teams can progress as only the winning team from each of the five locations will progress to the Scottish Final. Whilst the facilitates travelling arrangements it is, in other ways, limiting.

2nd Pomont’s two teams (Old Church) will play at home against teams from Viewpark, Dundee and Newport. The questionmaster will be Battalion Hon vice-president Arthur Priestly. 1st Denny & Dunipace have been drawn ‘away’ at Coatbridge. Opponents will be from Edinburgh, Gourock and Cambusnethan.
I will be questionmaster at Kilsyth where the other teams will be from Inverness, Stewarton, Wishaw, Bearsden and 1st Polmont (Brightons) The other rounds will be in Edinburgh and Bearsden.
Glasgow Science Centre opened its doors overnight for the BB Junior Section Big Sleepover where activities were laid on involving projects on the premises as well as food and places to bed down.
I steer away from suggesting places to sleep as I understand there was not much sleeping done!
Two local companies availed themselves of the experience, allowing boys to meet others from around the country.
They were 4th Falkirk (Trinity Church) and 1st Haggs (Haggs Church).
