The public house celebrates its 350th birthday this year and new owner Lee Johnston has decided the time is right to prepare it for the next chapter in its history.

The former retail manager took charge of the bar and restaurant, which was built in 1665, last year and has Royal Bank of Scotland support to refurbish the interior and reposition the Inn as a more family-friendly venue.

Lee said: “The Bridge Inn is a Scottish institution. It takes its name from the crossing point of the River Avon near Linlithgow.

“We’ve built a great reputation for our cooking and we are really popular amongst the local community and walkers.

“However, given that this year is its anniversary, we’ve decided the time is right to prepare it for the future.

“Some of it hasn’t been refreshed since the 1980s so we want to refurbish the interior without losing its historic feel.

“We’ll also be working hard to make the Inn more child-friendly – something we’ve been keen to do since we took over last year.”

Plans for the anniversary celebrations are already under way and work is set to be complete for the summer season.

Euan Reynolds of RBS said: “The Bridge Inn is iconic with customers travelling across the central belt to visit. We have a strong appetite to support the Scottish hospitality sector and are pleased to support Lee.”
