Bairns show strong support

In the week supporter behaviour, and strict liability rules, were debated by the SPFL board Falkirk fans did themselves, and the club proud.

More than 30 supporters – and their shovels – turned out at The Falkirk Stadium on Saturday night to clear the pitch of snow and ensure Sunday’s match with Hibernian went ahead on BT Sport.

That team effort, from the fans on Saturday night, then those who packed Westfield and roared their backing for the players on Sunday, contributed to a team effort which kept the Bairns second in the SPFL Championship, and exhibited what’s good about the Falkirk support to a global audience on TV.

It was evidence of a strong community club, and the strength of support of the Bairns, and certainly contrasted with the behaviour being debated by SPFL beaks on Tuesday. Falkirk chairman Doug Henderson listened while supporters’ conduct over offensive singing and pyrotechnic paraphernalia was discussed, but praised his own team’s fans who ensured the game went ahead.

“The fans who turned up on a Saturday night should be commended, it was a tremendous effort from them to clear the pitch and it was a good game with Hibs.

“Perhaps we should have won, but the efforts of many on Saturday night to ensure there was a game on, was very commendable indeed and typical of the Falkirk support.”

Details were taken from the volunteers who will be thanked again by the club.
