The No Fracking Way event, which runs from 10am at Falkirk Steeple in the High Street, follows a discussion by the UK Government’s
Scottish Affairs Committee about the future of the renewable energy industry in Scotland.

Central Scotland Green Party MSP John Wilson, who has been campaigning to ban all forms of unconventional gas extraction – including fracking, will be one of the speakers.

He said: “If fracking were allowed to go ahead it would be devastating for Scotland. The impact on health and our environment would be catastrophic. Even arguments put forward around job creation are full of holes.

“Research commissioned by Green MSPs shows that far more jobs could be created if Scotland moved toward sustainable energy production in the renewable sectors, rather than relying on volatile, environmentally harmful and ever decreasing oil and gas reserves.

“I look forward to addressing the rally in Falkirk on Sunday when campaigners from across the country will come together to tell the Scottish Government ‘no fracking way’.”

This week Scottish Affairs Committee members launched an inquiry to look at ways the UK Government and the Scotland Office can maintain a stable renewables industry in Scotland and support future growth.
