Another hero tradesman wins praise

Last week we highlighted the story of a pensioner ripped off for thousands of pounds by a cowboy roofing firm and rescued by another local company which did the repair work for free.

It turns out not to be an isolated case – reader Gayle Phillips got in touch to tell us about her hero tradesman, SMT Plumbing of Falkirk, who saved the day when the plumber replacing her bathroom left the family high and dry with a wrongly fitted bath, no basin and a leaking toilet.

“We handed over £2000 up front because he said he needed it for materials,” said Gayle, who has two daughters, the younger of whom is disabled. She managed to scrape together £600 to get another tradesman to take the job on.

Luckily she found Steven Tomlin, owner of SMT, who persuaded his suppliers to help, including Ceiling to Floor in Falkirk, and did the work for free.

“They’re a hardworking couple with a disabled daughter and it just got me that another plumber could take their money and then leave them in the lurch,” he said.
