May 23 promises to be a royal occasion for one Denny youngster who has been chosen as the burgh’s Gala Queen for 2015.

Rowan Fraser will lead the parade at the event - which was revived last year to great acclaim - and be crowned at Herbertshire Castle Park in Dunipace to officially mark its opening.

The 11-year-old is a pupil at St Patrick’s Primary and was chosen at random from all primary seven girls in the area.

She follows in the footsteps of Marie Smith, who performed the role last year and returns as dowager queen.

Anne O’Donnell, headteacher at St Patrick’s, said; “This is a great honour for Rowan and one that is very well deserved.

“She is our deputy head girl and plays a very active role in the school.”

Rowan will be supported on the day by two ladies-in-waiting, Shania Mitchell of St Patrick’s (11) and Leona Findlay of Denny Primary (11).

Connor Howarth (11) of Denny will play the role of the queen’s herald.

Zaq Heeps, Matthew Davie, Rhys McClung, Flynn McCann and Kieran Milne were chosen as pages, while Aimee Kelly, Kacey Acheson, Amii Parker, Grace Forsyth, Millie McLean, Chanelle McCorkhill, Emma Noble, Katie-jo Comrie, Kayla McClung and Sinead Henderson are fairies.
