Nepalese and Indian restaurant in Falkirk celebrates three year anniversary with 25% off
And to celebrate its three-year anniversary Moonlight Kitchen is offering 25% off all food on a la carte or takeaway menu – dine in or takeaway to eat at home – between July 2 and 14.
If you love a creamy korma, a biryani bursting with flavour, an aromatic curry or a sizzling tandoori dish then Moonlight Kitchen has plenty of choice.
Bhunas, pakora, chicken, lamb, fish and vegetable dishes are plentiful on this extensive menu, but it is the truly authentic Nepalese dishes and home style of cooking and eating that sets this restaurant apart.
All it’s food is freshly cooked – nothing is frozen – explains owner Sagar K.C
“The food we offer is a bit different from the more Anglicised Indian food. Nepalese food includes lots of snacky-style food. It’s great for sharing and we encourage diners to order food like this to share.”
Because everything is cooked fresh it can present challenges and means sometimes dishes sell out.
“It can make things difficult but it gives you the satisfaction of knowing that that the standards and the quality are always high,” said Sagar.
Mouthwatering food
Momos and Nepalese chilli chicken/chilli king prawn are a firm favourite. These filled steamed dumplings come with lots of different fillings and are street-food delights.
“When I grew up in Nepal I would eat these for breakfast, lunch and dinner,” laughed Sagar. He says their Nepalese diners come from across Scotland for the food at Moonlight Kitchen to get a true taste of home.
But the food is loved by the locals too.
Nepalese chilli chicken is a winner with Falkirk diners. It’s a dish cooked with mixed peppers, onions, marinated chicken which is fried with Nepalese spices – and now there’s a king prawn version too.
The best seller is butter chicken though – chicken pan-fried with peppercorns and then cooked in a rich tomato and butter sauce.
Some dishes have chicken on the bone – tasty chicken thighs cooked so well the meat simply falls way. South Indian chilli chicken on the bone is quite popular. It can also be served with boneless chicken breast. Lovely tandoori dishes include chicken tikka, mixed grill, lamb chops. There’s plenty for fish-lovers and vegetarians too. And, although Vegan dishes are not identified on the menu, the knowledgeable staff can advise on vegan food and other dietary requirements.
Inside or out?
The choice is yours. You could book a table in the 44-seater restaurant or order food to take out and eat at home – pick up or delivery is an option. The restaurant, at 76 Manor St, Falkirk FK1 1NU, is closed on Mondays but open 4:30pm – 10pm the rest of the week; Friday and Saturday lunchtimes from noon to 2pm. Lunch menus start from £8.95.
Part of the community
“One of the best things about being in Falkirk is the people,” said Sagar. “We have got a lot of regulars and they have accepted us and welcomed us. We are grateful for all the love and support we received over the years.”
He said feedback from customers was hugely welcomed. But, he said, whilst their curries may not be as sweet as some more ‘British’ versions, they had gone down well with the local clientele, and with word spreading, they’re seeing customers make longer journeys to come and eat.
And the reviews speak for themselves. One review on TripAdvisor in May this year said: “Although this restaurant has been opened for a few years, it’s taken us this long to get around to visiting it. I had heard many good reports and tonight I found out why….. the Nepalese influence really makes its mark. All dishes tasted amazing. The staff are very efficient and professional. I would highly recommend this restaurant.”
Another wrote: “Absolutely beautiful fresh food. Real attention to detail with flavours and quality. Very attentive staff. Great for sit in and takeaway.”
Whilst another said: “Absolutely love a trip to this restaurant. Staff are amazing. Food is delicious. Excellent value for money.”
Sagar said they had been proud to support local people, activities and causes by offering raffle prizes or meal vouchers for fundraising and they have been blown away by the friendly reception they have had in Falkirk, where regulars have become friends.
The team has recently taken over Sushi Negi and Noodles bar, located at 140 Grahams Road, Falkirk Fk2 7BZ. This restaurant serves authentic Japanese food like sushi, katsu curry, ramen, etc.
