Weather latest: Met office extend '˜amber' warning

The Met Office have now extended their severe '˜amber' warning.

It will now run until Friday (2nd March) 10am following the extreme weather conditions.

A statemtent on The Met Office website reads: “Frequent and often heavy snow showers are expected to continue through Thursday and overnight into Friday morning with further significant accumulations likely. Long delays and cancellations on bus, rail and air travel could occur.

“Roads may become blocked by deep snow, with many stranded vehicles and passengers. Some rural communities might be cut off for several days. Long interruptions to power supplies and other services such as telephone and mobile phone networks, could occur.”

Humza Yousaf, Scottish Government Minister for Transport said: “The advice is to avoid all but absolutely essential travel. If you do travel there will be disruption, you may possibly get stranded.”
