With views over to the Kilsyth and Ochil hills, this traditional looking cottage ticks all the boxes for lovers of country life.
But city lovers needn’t miss out either – just off the motorway, and an easy drive to either Glasgow or Edinburgh or indeed Falkirk, Stirling and Cumbernauld.
That sense of the best of the both worlds continues inside.
Thistle Cottage in Banknock was built just three years ago by Dan Henderson and son Daniel, a chartered building surveyor, working together on the project.
Wife Maureen couldn’t have been happier with the results, in particular the gorgeous kitchen with its sparkling black granite floor and worktops, stunning range hob, American fridge ... and even a wine fridge.
It all adds up to the perfect layout for parties and social occasions.
“The kitchen, dining and family area makes a fab social space,” says Maureen. “We’ve had a few great parties in this house!”
The long hot summer of 2013 allowed another brilliant feature to come into its own. The dining and family area opens, via a bi-fold door, onto a decking area, so the sociability can spill outside.
“Last summer was fantastic!” says Maureen.
But even when the weather isn’t so kind, there’s a cosy retreat in the shape of the family lounge .
The Hendersons wanted a traditional feel to their modern home and the open coal fire has given them just that.
“It’s a really cosy room in winter evenings,” says Maureen. “We really love sitting in there. It really is a fab cottage.”
The house boasts four double bedrooms, although the couple, who both work from home, use the bedroom on the lower ground floor as an offfice. The master bedroom is ensuite and boasts a walk-in wardrobe.
There are further two power showers and a family bathroom which has been finished to the same high standard as the rest of the house.
A favourite spot for Maureen – and visitors –is the cabrio velux window, which offers spectacular views over the hills and draws admiring comments from visitors to the house.
“I really do love the house,” says Maureen. “We thought we would stay here forever but we’ve got a chance to build a new house in the same road, so we can’t turn that down.”
With ample grounds outside, the house would be ideal for a family – and while it may feel like a rural retreat, the primary school is close by.
