Another addition was the games room, complete with snooker table, which was a particular favourite with David.

“I would work long hours, come home and chill out there for a while,’’ he said. ‘‘It’s also great for teenage children who want their own space – it means mum can watch the telly in peace!”

The family has not lived in the house for the past four years or so, but far from being allowed to fall into disrepair the house has been completely redecorated with new rendering outside.

David has also had a £35,000 driveway laid. It has a secure, electronic gateway for security and privacy.

“It’s a fantastic place for entertaining – especially at Christmas. The log burner is beautiful when it’s lit. There’s nothing artificial about it,” says David.

Like the other rooms, the modern kitchen is extremely spacious, comfortably holding a dining table and chairs. It also has French doors that open out on to the beautiful, mature gardens.

Indeed, one of the house’s main attractions is the way in which several of the rooms have French doors that open onto the lovely garden.

“It’s a great place to bring up children,” said David. “The forest is right next to us and there are beautiful walks, and yet it’s just a few miles to Larbert or Stirling and only 25 minutes to Glasgow or Edinburgh.”
