With this in mind we thought we’d look at which of Falkirk’s attractions are ranked highest on the popular travel website Tripadvisor – the results are occasionally surprising.

1. The Kelpies and The Helix
No surprise about what grans the number one spot - the remarkable Kelpie sculptures and the surrounding parkland attract visitors from far and wide. Pompey_Sunseekers wrote: "We were lucky enough to have a gorgeous sunny day when we visited the Kelpies which helped to display them beautifully but they would look gorgeous in any weather. A stunning and impressive piece of art."
2. The Falkirk Wheel
The world's first rotating boat lift, the Falkirk Wheel connects the Forth & Clyde and Union canals, and is a big hit with visitors who have given it over 3,000 five star reviews. TFC1966 wrote: "The Wheel is an incredible feat of engineering, and the revolution trip we took enabled us to see it working ‘up close and personal’. There is nothing else like it in the world and we’d recommend it to all."
3. Callendar House
Dating from the 14th century, Callendar House has hosted Mary, Queen of Scots, Bonnie Prince Charlie and Cromwell. Now it attracts history buffs who have awarded it hundreds of five star reviews. Sue H wrote: "We had a lovely time at Callendar House. Lots for interactive displays in the museum. Great lunch in the cafe. Nice little gift shop. Perfect top."
4. Xtreme Carting
Xtreme Karting is the first karting centre in Scotland to achieve a five star rating from Visit Scotland and lots of Tripadvisor reviewers agree. Jennifer p wrote: "Great day out for the family, birthday celebrations, corporate days etc. It brings the thrill of racing to life for both participants and spectators."
