Travel restrictions have now been lifted, meaning that those living in Falkirk are now able to leave their council area for non-essential purposes for the first time since Christmas.
Museums, galleries and many other attractions will then reopen on Monday, April 26, so we thought we’d look at some of the quirky, interesting and unusual things you can do and see, all within an hour’s drive of the centre of Falkirk.
5. Visit the birthplace of Mary, Queen of Scots
Located less than 9 miles from Falkirk, Linlithgow Palace dates back to the 12th century and was the birthplace of Mary, Queen of Scots. Once you've explored the palace you can enjoy a walk around Linlithgow Loch. Photo: Canva
6. Crack the Da Vinci Code at Rosslyn Chapel
Rosslyn Chapel, around 40 minutes from Falkirk, gained worldwide fame as one of the key locations in Dan Brown's bestselling book The Da Vinci Code. Many of the theories about the ornate carvings have been debunked - from the Kights Templar to aliens - but you might be the one to finally crack their meaning. Photo: Canva
7. Take a trip down memory lane in Callander
Callander has plenty to keep you busy for several day trips, including the Hamilton Toy Museum - one of the largest privately owned collections of toys in the UK. 8. Meet a parliament of owls
Located in Polkemmet Country Park, just off the M8 motorway near Whitburn, the Scottish Owl Centre lays claim to the largest collection of owls in the world. Get up, close and personal with some of the amazing birds of prey and enjoy the regular flying displays. Photo: Canva
