Space to live and play without constraint

Lawrie Dick admits that when he designed and built Bankhead House, he had a lot to consider.

Not only was there a big family to think about, the property had to be able to handle both work and play and whatever else was thrown at it. And, covering 3000 square feet, it appears that that mission has been accomplished.

Mr Dick said: “When it was built 20 years ago, we had a big family so we wanted a family home that could also be a party house.

“We had a big plot so we knew we had lots of space and we used that to create a house that was flexible and didn’t constrain you in any way. Downstairs, for example, there are four rooms that could be chosen as the dining room.

“I think it would be an idea home for running a business from because numerous commercial vehicles can be parked outside and also for a big family such as two families merging together which is more and more popular.

“But it is also a social house. For my wife’s 50th birthday we had 30 cars parked outside and 120 guests.”

Set over three floors, the house boasts six bedrooms, substantial space in all its public rooms and bedrooms, a stunning entrance hall, secluded walled gardens and two sizeable outbuildings.

There’s also plenty of room to expand or even build another property in the grounds.

Mr Dick and his wife, Bunty, are now eyeing up sunnier climes for their retirement but say they will miss the size and flexibility the house offers.

Mr Dick said: “The intention was always to have the space and room to do whatever you wanted with the house without being constrained in any way.”
