The District Towns Gift Card scheme offers an innovative alternative to traditional festive presents, bonuses, and even the office party.

With values of £5 to £500, the gift cards can be redeemed at a wide variety of businesses, including independent and national traders, within Falkirk district.

The scheme has been developed by Falkirk Delivers, which manages the local Business Improvement District (BID), as part of a UK-wide Town and City Gift Cards programme.

Its aim is to keep consumer spend on high streets, while also providing a much-needed boost to local economy recovery during an extended period of Covid-19 pandemic restrictions.

Elaine Grant, the BID manager, believes the Gift Card could be seen as the “gift of choice” for employers, who want to say a festive thank you this year.

She said: “The District Towns Gift Card allows employers to reward staff, while also supporting local businesses at a particularly difficult time.

“The card provides the gift of choice, to allow the employee of their organisation to buy a memorable gift in a wide variety of different businesses, and it also ensures the thank you is even more appreciated.

“This, in turn, will help to drive employee engagement and retention at a time when supporting the local economy is paramount.”

In fact, there are more than 100 businesses in the Falkirk area which accept the District Towns Gift Card. It takes the form of a prepaid Mastercard, which can be used up to 12 months from purchase.

To buy online see the Falkirk Delivers website. Employers can make bulk orders of the gift card.

With the festive season fast approaching, Falkirk Council and Falkirk Delivers are calling on local people to get active and support local traders, with the launch of a new programme which promotes a healthier, more environmentally friendly lifestyle.

Falkirk Council’s Cllr Paul Garner said: “I am delighted to say that we have received external grant funding to allow us to deliver a brand new Take the Right Route programme, which will encourage people who live and work in Falkirk and the District towns to lead a more active and sustainable lifestyle and support local traders throughout winter.

“This free to join programme runs until Sunday 20 February 2022.

“During the pandemic there was a noticeable rise in people being more physically active, and so we want to capitalise on this, whilst also encouraging people back on to public transport, where it is safe to do so, and supporting a local economic recovery. The Take the Right Route programme will do all of these things.

“Participants will be able to convert their walking, wheeling, running, cycling and public transport journeys into a cash equivalent to exchange for local shopping vouchers, namely the Falkirk District Towns Gift Card. There will also be some fantastic prizes up for grabs.

“I urge everyone who lives or works in Falkirk to get involved in the Take the Right Route programme. By doing so, you will be supporting our local traders and can experience the benefits that being more physically active can deliver.”

The Take the Right Route programme is being delivered in close partnership with Falkirk Delivers. Elaine Grant, Business Manager at Falkirk Delivers, said: “We’re excited to be part of this programme which will help to support our local businesses across the region.

“We hope to see lots of local people out and about, earning points which they can then spend locally using our District Towns Gift Card.

Throughout the campaign people can earn boosted points just by visiting their local town centres, and in December there will be prizes available everyday as part of a ‘Christmas Countdown’.”
