The group behind the annual event has been forced to cancel it because of the current restrictions.

But, the Lowland Canal Association is forging ahead with a competition to find the best decorated boat.

The organisation represents boaters who live and play on the canal, and, for the last few years it has been holding a Flotilla of Lights with decorated barges coming from all along the canal and gathering in Edinburgh at night.

With COVID restrictions still in place, the 2020 event has been cancelled, prompting the group to think out of the box.

Neil Kitchener, secretary, said: “Everybody was disappointed so we have decided to hold a competition for the best decorated boat.

“We are asking boaters to decorate/light up their boat/mooring and send photos into our competition.”
