Our home is our castle!

This 10-year-old detached villa in Airth still looks as fresh and clean as it did the day it was built.

The Douglas Avenue property has been the perfect base for the Curtis family since their move to the area from Halifax a decade ago.

The heart of the house

The heart of the house

Won over by the perfect location, its welcoming atmosphere and its spacious downstairs layout, owners Lee and Ellen have loved living in this house, watching their two boys, now 16 and 20, grow up.

Mr Curtis said: “When we relocated, we initially looked at houses in Edinburgh but they were a bit too expensive. We wanted something that had good commuter links and was between Glasgow and Edinburgh.

“When we bought this house, it was brand new so we didn’t really need to do anything, but we upgraded the kitchen and a few of the bathrooms.

“Since we changed the kitchen, it’s really made a difference and we really love the downstairs.

“The kitchen and family room is a great social space, overlooking the garden, so it’s very good for parties.

“The hall also gives a welcoming feel to the house straight away, and overall it’s a very bright home.”

The immaculate look and stylish decor are just a few of the luxuries of this three-storey house.

It also boasts four bathrooms, six bedrooms, a peaceful garden, a formal dining room with French doors and extensive storage space.

Quality also runs throughout this home with fine touches such as Karndean flooring, slick bathrooms, a double garage with electric doors and a timber sun deck outside.

And with the style also comes practicality.

The house also features a sizeable utility room, fitted wardrobes, a downstairs WC and an alarm system.

But it’s this home’s location, set towards the end of a cul-de-sac in the grounds of the historic Airth Castle, that has clearly struck a chord with this family.

Lee said: “It’s a lovely place to live – very quiet with a great little village. Everyone is really friendly, and we enjoy taking our dog Henry out for a walk and stopping into the local pub.”

The property is now on the market after the couple decided to downsize and purchase a second home in the sun for their retirement.

Mr Curtis added: “It’s hard to find anything not to like about this house.

“It’s in great condition, and my wife keeps it immaculate – which does drive our boys crazy!”
