Post-war Royal visit to Grahamston station

editorial image

Grahamston railway station received illustrious guests circa 1947, above, by way of Royal appointment when King George VI, the Queen Mother and daughters Princesses Margaret and Elizabeth, now the present monarch Queen Elizabeth II – seen just stepping off the train – dropped in.

Hamish Stevenson of the Scottish Railway and Preservation Society (SRPS) in Bo’ness sent this historic image in looking to see if anyone remembers the event and the date.

The old pillars you can see in the shot were passed to SRPS which in turn made them available to Dollar Park.

The second picture shows the station in a later era when British Railways inspector Robert Elliott checks the hanging baskets in July 1972.
